In early Sept, several members of the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach had the privilege of visiting this center for an unforgettable and emotional experience.
The visit began with a powerful video that shared the history of the renowned trailblazer and survivor Mel Mermelstein and the over 700 artifacts from the Auschwitz Concentration Camp — we learned of his very personal connection to the Holocaust. From there, our group was guided through the center on a detailed tour, where we were given insight into many of the artifacts. Hearing the stories behind these pieces, while envisioning the suffering endured by this family and millions of others, was both heartbreaking and eye-opening.
This visit served as a somber reminder of the importance of remembrance, education, and compassion. It was an experience that touched our attending club members, and reinforced the value of peace and understanding in our world today.
A huge thank you to our incredible Program Chair, Gigi Kan, for organizing this meaningful outing and for providing a delicious lunch to make the day even more special. Gigi’s dedication continues to bring our club together through impactful programs and shared experiences.
