Stand Tall, Ukraine: A Story of Healing, Hope, and Rotary in Action

Rotary Stories

In a country forever changed by war, thousands of men and women are learning how to stand again—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through the power of Rotary, that journey is becoming possible.

The “Stand Tall, Ukraine!” Global Grant is a joint humanitarian effort between the Ratusha–Lviv Rotary Club in Ukraine and the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach, bringing life-changing prosthetics, rehabilitation, and post-traumatic stress support to Ukrainian war survivors. Leading this extraordinary mission are medical champions Dr. Oksana Zayachkivska, Dr. Ihor Kukhlevskyy, and International Chair -Oryssia Prokopovych, whose work on the ground is assisting this effort. AND a special shout-out to our awesome member Leslie Dinkel for being the key person to write up the Global Grant!!

This year alone, the program will:

  • Train 10 highly specialized rehabilitation trainers
  • Train 750 additional medical professionals
  • Provide prosthetics, physical therapy, and counseling to those who need it most
  • Serve 350+ beneficiaries in Year One, with a long-term impact of 2,500+ lives over the next 3–5 years

Behind every number is a person learning to walk again, hug their family again, return to work again—and most importantly—hope again.

With a total grant of $75,000, Rotary clubs on both sides of the globe have stepped up in a powerful way:

  • Huntington Beach Rotary: $13,000 pledged
  • Ratusha–Lviv Rotary (Host Club): $1,000
  • Long Beach Rotary: $2,000 (processing)
  • AUHS: $2,500 (processing)
  • Other donors: $1,050

Yet the story is still being written. $7,350 remains to be raised, and every dollar brings another survivor one step closer to standing tall again.

This is Rotary at its very best—local hearts creating global healing. Together, we are not just helping people walk again—we are helping a nation rise.
