Rotarians Roll Up Their Sleeves at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
This past weekend, members of the Huntington Beach Rotary Club partnered with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and Amigos de Bolsa Chica for a hands-on conservation project at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.
Under clear blue skies, our volunteers worked side by side to remove overgrown and non-native vegetation from protected nesting areas. This important habitat restoration supports two federally and state-listed shorebirds — the California Least Tern and the Western Snowy Plover — both of which rely on carefully maintained nesting grounds for a successful breeding season.
Guided by CDFW staff, our team learned which plants to remove, which to preserve, and how even small restoration efforts can have a significant environmental impact. It was a morning filled with teamwork, dirty shoes, a truck full of vegetation, and meaningful service.
We are proud to support local conservation efforts that protect wildlife right here in our own backyard. Thank you to our dedicated members and community partners who continue to demonstrate Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self.
