With our usual great weather for October at hand, the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach brought together a group of volunteers, along with their families and some new friends (thank you Meet-up), for our bi-annual, but unique community event.
The Bolsa Chica Conservancy and the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach got together for a day of habitat restoration as we cleaned the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve waters via kayak! Under normal circumstances, the use of recreational watercraft is prohibited in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve waters, but through a special agreement the Bolsa Chica Conservancy (BCC) has with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, we are permitted the use of kayaks to access trash & debris that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to reach on foot. The BCC is only allowed to do this activity outside of the breeding season, which typically falls between the months of October and February.
Our volunteers collected over 242 pounds of trash out of the Wetlands! Join us for this rewarding fun next time!
